ABOUT
MOTION MUSIC is a playful, interactive installation that transforms the user’s movements into musical manipulations. Set in the University of Iowa’s Motion Capture Studio, the project explored the question: if your body affects the music, will you be compelled to move—to dance?
It examined our relationship to kinesthetic space: what happens when the sonic environment shifts around you? Would you explore it—like a body moving through water, waving its arms simply to feel the sensation of the current across the skin? The piece invited participants into a state of embodied playfulness within an unseen—but heard—“volume” of space.
Technically, the Motion Capture system communicated with Isadora to generate responsive sound and projection environments, while simultaneously sending signals to an ETC lighting console to dynamically adjust the lighting conditions throughout the space.
