Process
This project explored a devising process that began from a completely egalitarian foundation. Students generated stage content collaboratively through a process I call Image Roulette. From there, they began stitching their images together to form larger scenes. Each rehearsal concluded with a reflective discussion in which the ensemble thought dramaturgically about the piece that was emerging. The first two weeks were entirely generative; afterward, drawing from all the material and conversations, I wrote a script that followed the impulses and imagery the students had created. I presented this script as a proposal—not a directive—and the ensemble enthusiastically said yes.
SYNOPSIS:
A new type of therapy is in town and it’s becoming controversial. Local social media and news sensation Finn Sawyer is going into AMBIGUITY THERAPY to investigate their practices. Her journalistic prowess will be tested as she faces some of the most unusual therapeutic methods yet to be implemented in a clinical setting. Will she come out the same? Will she have a story to report? What is going on behind the doors of Ambiguity Therapy?
A story of transformation that unfolds when we integrate the unexpected into our psyche—a journey from perfectionism toward embracing the mess, the unknown, and the imperfect. It explores how the process of individuation and healing arises not from resisting our shadows and chaos, but from learning to integrate them.
